Dental Professionals Volunteers:

To Volunteer: please complete a volunteer form.

  • Dentists: Volunteer in triage, local anesthesia, oral surgery, restorative, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatrics.
  • Dental Hygienists: Provide preventive treatments (i.e. prophylaxis, topical fluoride, sealants) and full mouth debridements.
  • Dental Hygiene Students: Provide patients with oral health instruction.
  • Dental Assistants: Volunteer in oral surgery, restorative, endodontics, prosthodontics, pediatrics, and sterilization.
  • X-ray Technicians: Provide patients with panoramic and Nomad (portable) x-ray services.
  • Lab Technicians: Prepare interim partial dentures.
  • Dental Equipment Maintenance Technicians: Ensure the optimal operation of dental equipment.
  • RNs, Nursing Students, Physicians, Medical Students: Review patients' health history, and measure patients' blood pressure and blood glucose levels.
  • EMTs/Paramedics: Available onsite in case of a medical emergency.
  • Pharmacists, Pharmacy Students, Pharmacy Techs: Dispense premedications, antibiotics and low-level pain medications as prescribed by dentists and oral surgeons.
  • Front Office Staff: Code patient charts and data entry for recordkeeping in Excel.

Non-Dental Volunteers

To Volunteer: please complete a volunteer form.

  • Patient Registration: Greet patients and explain how the program works, distribute paperwork, and direct patients         to where they need to go.
  • Patient Escorts: Escort patients to and from the various NEMOM departments and areas.
  • Patient Exit Interviewers: Interview patients to gather information about their pain status and the time frame of their most recent dental care, insurance status, demographic factors, and their COMOM experience.
  • Runners: Assist department leads as needed.
  • Translators: Assist patients by interpreting for them in all clinic departments. Individuals who are fluent in Spanish are of particular need. Individuals who are proficient in American Sign Language are also needed.
  • Volunteer Registration: Greet and check-in volunteers.
  • Food Service: Serve meals and refreshments to patients and volunteers, and clean-up food service areas.
  • Waste Management: Empty waste and help with general clean-up.
  • Security/ Crowd Control: Ensure orderliness of everyone at the event.
  • Data Entry: Enter information from patient treatment forms and patient interview questionnaires into Excel spreadsheets for record keeping.
